Why Fake Security Cameras Should Be Part of Your Home Security Strategy

For anyone who owns a home, and that includes 78 million Americans, you know full well how many companies are after your money for home security products. Especially if you are a new homeowner, you are getting bombarded every day with mailers, telephone calls, maybe even door-to-door salesmen all trying to sell you one thing or another to improve the security of your home. Who knows, some of them might even work.

But here is one thing that does work: fake security cameras. How do we know? We know this because no less than law enforcement agencies and criminals who specialize in home burglary have told us so. In a recent neighborhood watch training, the instructor mentioned fake security cameras specifically as being a good deterrent to home burglary. How’s that for an endorsement?

And if you want something even stronger, we have read interviews with crooks that specialized in home burglary that admitted freely that fake security cameras were literally impossible to tell from the real thing. And because of that when they saw one on a house, they would pick another house for fear of having their picture taken.

The home security strategy should include doing the most obvious things first. They would include clearing away all shrubbery around lower-level windows that creates hiding places for the bad guys; lock all doors and windows even when you’re home. It’s a fact that 60% of all home burglaries happen through unlocked doors and windows.

Start or join a neighborhood watch program. If you don’t already have one in your neighborhood, your local police Department can help you get one going. They are free and a proven way to improve the security not only of your home but that of your whole neighborhood. It is one of the premier ways that private citizens can help deter crime in their community.

Put some signs in your front yard that warn of a vicious guard dog or a home security system in place. You don’t even need the dog or the security system-just the sign will be sufficient.

All of the items that we have mentioned to this point have been free. And they would form the basis of the good home security strategy by themselves. In addition, we would recommend that you spend a little bit of money on some inexpensive window and door alarms. They are highly effective and won’t break the bank.

And then the final piece of the puzzle is to install some inexpensive fake home security cameras. We recommend one by each door. You want them visible so that the bad guys can see them.

Follow those recommendations and you will have a good home security strategy in place.
