The self-defense products industry, which specializes in nonlethal self-defense for personal safety and personal security, was doing just fine until tasers were introduced. Then because of all the publicity that tasers got, there was a spinoff of publicity for pepper sprays, stun guns personal alarms and other self-defense items.
That publicity has been ongoing ever since. And while tasers get the bulk of the headlines, it seems like the other self-defense items that are so good at personal security and personal safety do all the work in a manner of speaking. Pepper sprays are the largest selling self-defense item with stun devices coming in second. Both of those are on average about 90% effective. Therein lies the problem. Do you really want to take a chance when it’s your life that’s at risk?
As further background for this, there are close to 17,000 law enforcement agencies in the U.S. that use taser products. Then there are another nine countries around the world that use them. So my question is if it’s good enough for them in the performance of their duties and so effective why wouldn’t you have one?
There was an article recently in a Stoneham, Massachusetts paper where the police chief was talking about how effective tasers are. He pointed out that “it completely debilitates and subdues an individual-it’s quite painful-but it’s not lethal and the effects of the Taser wear off in approximately a minute and a half and that gives us ample time to neutralize a suspect with no injury, and after that minute and a half it’s like nothing ever happened.”
Of course that’s coming from the police chief, and their tasers are different from the tasers available for civilians but only in that they have more bells and whistles. That’s why they’re so expensive. But tasers that are available to civilians do exactly the same thing. The most popular civilian model is the TASER® Pulse that shoots out two electrified darts up to 15 feet away and immobilizes an assailant with remarkable take down power-close to 100%.
In tests done, tasers have been shown to have more stopping power than a 9 mm. handgun.
When it comes to nonlethal self-defense you want a self-defense item for your personal security and personal safety that’s reliable. Tasers are the premier nonlethal self-defense item in the marketplace.
You have to pass a background check before they can be activated and that’s the only reason I can think of why you wouldn’t get one.
