Why a Home Security Safe May Be Your Most Affordable Insurance

With all the news these days about home burglary you may have considered getting a safe. But is a safe really worth the money and the effort to get one? Obviously only you can decide that. But consider that your chances of getting burglarized are about one out of five. Also consider that the value of goods taken in a burglary is close to $2000. And that doesn’t count the damage done to your home which is close to another $2000.

A safe won’t protect the damage done to your home but it can protect valuable items that otherwise might be stolen in a home burglary. That’s why home security experts recommend that you get some kind of safe to protect your valuables. A home security safe may actually be the cheapest insurance you can get.

All insurance policies have deductibles. The higher the deductible, the lower your insurance premium and vice versa. So if you have a low deductible with a high value of goods in your home that you’re trying to protect, a safe may make a lot of sense. If you have a high deductible and have relatively low value of goods that you’re trying to protect, it may not make much sense at all.

For example, if you have a lot of jewelry it makes a lot of sense to keep it in a safe. Your insurance company may even give you a break on your premium depending on what kind safe you have. If you’re protecting a lot of jewelry, you may need to consider getting a high security safe which is designed differently than a fire safe.

High security safes are designed to withstand attacks by professional burglars using blow torches, crowbars or other devices to breach the door. A fireproof safe, for example, does not have a reinforced door like a high-security or burglary resistant safe is likely to have.

There are safes on the market today that are hybrids safes that offer fire resistance and burglary resistance which is something that you may want to consider.

A Home Security Safe with a 2 hour fire rating and anchor bolt hardware may be the cheapest insurance you can get to protect your valuables. It is way too heavy to carry out of the house and even a professional burglar can’t breach these safes.

After you weigh your options you may come to the same conclusion: a safe can be your cheapest insurance.
