You have probably seen the television commercials, newspaper ads, flyers that come in the mail and countless other assaults on your senses to heighten your awareness of home security products. Why is home security such a big issue? Because burglary is on the rise all over the country!
It is over a $60 billion a year industry. There are all kinds of products for security of your home ranging from monitored alarm systems to electrified fences, to fake security cameras and a multitude of window and door alarms-and anything and everything in between. You are limited to what you can spend on home security by your budget and nothing else.
And as we have discussed before, one of the reasons why burglary is such a big enterprise is because homeowners actually make it easy to commit, and if the burglar does get caught-only a 5% chance of that-his punishment is usually a slap on the wrist.
1. The Neighborhood Watch program is the most successful program in the country for improving home security. You can join a group that is already in your neighborhood or start a chapter if there isn’t one. Your local police department can help you get it going. It’s easy and it’s free. And who knows, you may even get to know some neighbors.
2. Window and door alarms are an inexpensive way to protect your home from burglary. You should install one on every opening that you have in your house-every window and every door. They’re don’t cost a lot and are easy to install.
3. The average burglar only spends 10 minutes or less inside your home so he can’t look in every nook and cranny. That’s what makes diversion safes so effective. They are products that are hollowed out inside to allow you to hide jewelry, cash, credit cards and even a small handgun. If a burglar does get into your house, this is a great way to protect your valuables from theft.
4. Other ideas include installing fake security cameras on the outside of your house. They are so much more realistic than they were even five years ago that no one can tell the difference between our fake security cameras and their much more expensive brothers. Most of them have flashing red LED lights, and some are motion activated-all for a fraction of the cost of the real thing.
These home security products are an inexpensive way to improve your home’s security and prevent burglary.
