Every year car crime is on the increase. Car vandalism is at an all-time high. Even in my apartment complex parking lot, parts from vehicles are stolen periodically.
Here are some tips to help protect your car. You may need to take other steps but this is at least a start.
It goes without saying to lock your doors and close the windows. However long you are leaving it always use your garage if you have one and lock both your vehicle and your garage.
When you park outside, park it in an attended carpark or in a well lit open space.
Don’t leave anything in your car. Especially on your back seat.
Remove your car stereo if you can or your GPS.
Don’t leave important documents in your glove compartment like insurance cards.
Tuck in your wing mirrors and pull the aerial down.
Get a car alarm. Alarms can deter thieves not only from stealing your vehicle but also from taking items from it
Secure your wheels with locking wheel nuts.
And if you park your car outside your home, get an Outdoor Surveillance Camera to keep an eye on your car.
Install Motion Activated Floodlights such as the one shown here-creating a well lit area that deters vandals from trespassing.
