Are You A Survivalist

There is a whole subculture of people in United States who believe in Survivalism which “is a movement of individuals or groups (called survivalists or preppers) who are actively preparing for emergencies, including possible disruptions in social or political order, on scales from local to international.”

If you are interested in the Survivalist movement, we offer some of the best Food and Water Solutions the two main ingredients to survival anywhere.

This 185 page illustrated book on Shoestring Survivalism can help you guard against natural disasters and social eruptions-the two main bugaboos of survivalists.

The author talks about survival methods that cost little or close to nothing. This book aims to provide survival information for those who may be living in areas prone to natural disasters, such as hurricanes or floods. It also provides survival skills for those facing societal problems, such as terrorism or economic depression. With the simple steps in this book, you will be able to survive any potential crises.

Eric Frein is certainly the most famous survivalist of late but not for good reasons.

Frein has been compared to a lot of people. Recently he was called a “wilderness ninja.” Others have compared him to Blackbeard, Jesse James or Billy the Kid, not so much for his criminal activity but for his ability to capture the imagination of the American public by eluding authorities for over seven weeks with well over 1000 law enforcement officers searching for him.

We disagree and think he is nothing more than a misguided ideologue who happened to commit a cheap shot murder of a police officer.

Who Is Eric Frein?

Eric Frein Survivalist

Some people claim that he is a cult hero or rapidly on his way to becoming one. To us it just seems mind-boggling that a single individual can for so long elude tens of hundreds of law enforcement and military personnel with their sophisticated tracking devices and tracking dogs.

According to the online encyclopedia Eric Frein is a 31 year old “American fugitive sought by federal and state authorities for the alleged ambush murder by firearms of Corporal Bryon K. Dickson II, an officer of the Pennsylvania State Police, and the alleged attempted murder of Alex Douglass, another state trooper in Pike County, Pennsylvania, on September 12, 2014. Frein is the 503rd person added to the Ten Most Wanted List of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

After seven weeks he was finally caught at a cost of about $10 million for the manhunt. At one point he had over 1,000 federal, state and local law enforcement officials including the U.S. Marshal’s personnel looking for him. In the end it was a quiet takedown that ended weeks of tension and turmoil in the area. Schools were closed, football games and church services were canceled because of blockaded roads. Small businesses suffered and residents were ordered to stay indoors at times.

But how did he stay on the loose for all this time? An article from the Christian Science Monitor offers some insights on the wilderness ninja”as he has been called. We may never know all the answers, but it is clear that Eric Frain did a lot of homework preparing for his big adventure disappearing from work for weeks at a time, preparing food caches and finding hidden shelters.

Eric Frein may be a survivalist, but he is also a crack shot and what some people are saying is a bad dude. He has been hiding out in an area of Pennsylvania that is frequently associated with bear country. Because he is a crack shot police have been extra vigilant and worried that a long-distance shot could be deadly. There was also worry that some of his hiding places were booby-trapped which in part may account for the speed of the search-very slow.

According to this Fox news story Frein was hiding in Pennsylvania’s black bear country.

At one point he was included in the FBI’s Most Wanted List offering a $100,000 reward. Putting Frein on the list allowed the FBI to use more resources in the manhunt.

Eventually the search was brought to three states; Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Speculation was that he was looking at bears as a source of food- good luck with that! The area around Pike County has rocky areas, damp swamps and heavy forests with almost impassable thick brush.

According to this Fox News story Frein had a small role in a 2007 movie and was active in a military re-enactor’s group playing the part of a Serbian soldier. He frequently helped with props and historical references for a documentary about World War I.

According to this story Frein planned the ambush and its aftermath for at least two years doing research on how manhunts are conducted and how to forage for food. Some people who are real experts in survival skills say he was really unskilled, that his plan lacked depth and as the weather turned cold, he really had little chance of escape.

Here are some other wilderness or survivalist tools.
