In an article recently that was published out of Ireland, Academics were discussing the relative utility of using a term like “intimate partner violence” instead of “domestic violence” and using the term “abuse” instead of “violence.” Gotta love those Academics! The article went on to point out that “domestic violence or abuse is any persistent behavior that puts a woman in fear for her life, health or sanity.”
Wordsmithing has never been one of my favorite pastimes. All I know is that one out of every four women in the United States reports intimate partner violence, and one in three high school girls in a dating relationship experiences violence. There is a growing amount of data that shows that it is a learned trait-young men learn it from their abusive fathers.
The abuse can come in many forms, the most common of which is physical, because it’s most easily documented. But other forms of abuse come into play such as mental, psychological and financial. And now with social media the buzz, texting and Facebook slurs abound. If there is a way that men can find to abuse their partners, they will use it without hesitation.
Ways To Defend Yourself
Law enforcement officers all over the country carry pepper spray on their utility belts. It is their first nonlethal alternative in the performance of their duties. You cannot shoot everyone and you wouldn’t want to. So, pepper sprays provide a nonlethal way for policeman to do their jobs. If it is good enough for them, why wouldn’t it be good enough for you if you are in an abusive relationship?
We highly recommend that any woman who is in a domestic violence or domestic abuse situation carry a self-defense product such as a pepper spray or stun gun with them wherever they go. There are several models of pepper sprays that come attached to keychains, which makes having them with you whenever you would need one more likely.
A pepper spray can disable anyone for 30 to 45 minutes giving you time to get away from a dangerous situation and seek help. They are legal in all jurisdictions but some cities and states have a few limitations which should be checked before making a purchase.
You shouldn’t go on feeling helpless. Refuse to be a victim any longer and be proactive by getting a self-defense product. Who knows, it may end up saving your life.
We have 80 different Pepper Sprays with keychain attachments that make it easy to defend yourself. One of them will be just right for you.
The Touchdown Stun Gun is an affordable powerful self-defense weapon.
