Child Safety Tools to Protect Your Kids

The world might seem like a worse-off place than it once was. Statistics show us that things are generally getting better. However, personal perceptions still shape the way we feel about our surroundings, and you cannot deny a person’s life experience.

In the case of child safety, parents and guardians will always be worried about whether they’re taking the right steps to protect their kids. A child’s innocent ignorance can lead to potential pitfalls and dangers, so it’s important to do everything you can as a parent to provide them with a safe and happy life.

As a parent, it’s a must to guarantee that child safety at home and in public is your top priority. To achieve this, it’s in your best interest to use the following safety tools to protect your children at every turn.

Car Seats

If you have a younger child, it is imperative that you have them in a car seat at all times when driving. In the United States, 675 children 12 years old and younger died in motor vehicle crashes just in 2017. While car seats wouldn’t have saved all of those children, statistics show that booster seats reduce the risk of serious injury by 45% for children between the ages of 4-8. It’s important that you place your child in a car seat or booster seat prior to getting out on the road, whether heading out on a road trip or just driving to the grocery store.

In-Home Gun Safety

In-home gun safes are a must to ensure child safety at home. At least 73 children under the age of 12 years old perished due to accidental gun deaths in 2017. While this number might seem low, all of these deaths were still unnecessary and could have been avoided had gun safes been used within the home.

43% of Americans report living in a household where a gun is owned, and, while it is unknown whether this is true, every home should have a gun safe. These are essential to keep guns out of the hands of minors and to prevent tragic accidents that should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. You don’t need to go buy an insanely expensive safe, either; an electronic keypad safe or a bookcase gun safe is enough to keep guns out of the hands of innocent children.

Protection Against Strangers

As a parent, you should also be worried about the safety of your children around strangers. Whether they’re playing out in the front yard or inside and home alone while you are out running quick errands, your children should know the basics about protecting themselves from strangers.

In regards to leaving your children home alone, even during their teenage years, you should consider adding some tools to your home to ward off strangers. One of those is the installation of visible security cameras which can help deter strangers, especially those with ill intentions, from approaching your home. And, if a potential break-in were ever to occur when you’re not at home, you should have a step of protection beyond a security system. This can include a door jammer to keep strangers out, which can be easily installed by your child with basic training and instructions.

Electronic Leash

If you and your child are planning to be in a crowded public place, it’s smart to have a protective device keeping both you and your child connected. Rather than relying on an actual leash, a Child Guard electronic leash can help keep your child in sight. Letting the parent set the distance, the child’s transmitter will send out an electronic signal to the device’s receiver, which will begin beeping once the child moves outside of the set distance. This makes it easy to let your child wander—but never too far.

Child Safety at Home

Looking to keep an eye on your child while you’re not at home or in another part of your living space? Place nanny cams around populated rooms to keep an eye on your kid. Other than making it easy to watch your child to ensure they’re not doing anything dangerous, these also help to keep an eye on nannies and caregivers. This is a great way to remain aware of your child’s safety at all times.

Safety First

Protecting your child is a must and, thankfully, these devices make it easy to do just that. With a little foresight, you can keep your child safe, whether at home or in public.
