Statistics of Domestic Violence – An Update

David Artman |

There was a news story by the Associated Press out of London that quoted the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) as saying that domestic violence was a “global health problem of epidemic proportions.” The article went on to say that experts agree that “screening for domestic violence should be added to all levels of healthcare.”

It was the first major global review of violence against women in over a decade. Among other things they found was that “about one-third of all women have been physically or sexually assaulted by a former or current partner.” The report also found that 40% of women killed worldwide were victims at the hands of their partner and that it was the most common kind of violence experienced by women.

Those numbers are higher than ones reported in the United States where 25% of women report intimate partner violence. But those numbers are growing with more reports every day due to better responses by law enforcement. Some other figures are even more astonishing. For example, three women every day are killed by their domestic partner. When law enforcement officials investigate a murder in a household the very first suspect is the spouse. And why not? Three times more women are shot and killed by a husband compared to the total number of murders by male strangers.

In all the years that we have been writing about domestic violence very little, if anything, has changed. Every day women in the United States are victims of domestic abuse assault. Abusive domestic partners have kept up with the times and have taken to Facebook and Twitter postings, which is just another form of domestic abuse. They add that to their repertoire of physical, psychological, financial and mental abuse-all of which can be devastating.

How To Defend Yourself

If you are a woman and find yourself in an abusive relationship, there is absolutely no reason why you need to suffer anymore at the hands of your spouse. You need to learn how to defend yourself. We always recommend that you take a basic self-defense training course and arm yourself with a nonlethal self-defense product that is legal in your area. Some cities and states have restrictions on pepper sprays and stun guns, but they are changing all the time.

A pepper spray or a stun gun can disable an assailant for as long as 10 to 45 minutes, allowing you time to escape a potentially life-threatening situation.

Don’t give in to being a victim. Learn how to defend yourself and develop an escape plan; it may end up saving your life.

We have 80 different Pepper Sprays with keychain attachments that make it easy to defend yourself.

The Touchdown Stun Gun is an affordable powerful self-defense weapon of 8,000,000 volts.
