A Good Non -Lethal Option for Personal Defense

Small and light enough to comfortably conceal in boot, pocket or purse but feels good in the hand and deploys with an intimidating snap. Adequate length to keep an attacker at bay and seems sturdy enough to result in a debilitating strike. Excellent price point. There exists confusing state to state variability in laws concerning deploying a “baton” for personal defense that are indeed preposterous, but this certainly seems an effective non-lethal alternative to a firearm in places where carry is prohibited.

    Measurements and Maintenance

I noticed the description on the store left a bit to be desired, so I just measured mine.

    243g

    23.2cm collapsed

    53cm extended

2.1cm diameter, 21.6cm length aluminum handle

1.55cm diameter, 16cm exposed length aluminum midshaft

1.1cm diameter, 13.7cm exposed length steel end shaft

1.35cm diameter, 1.5cm length aluminum tip

The glass breaker is a small marble, I assume made of alumina (aluminum oxide, or synthetic sapphire). The tip has bolt threads (can't find my thread gauge, so I'm not sure of pitch), and it goes into nut threads on the end shaft. Mine was finger tight with no thread locker. It has a small O-ring which helps hold it in place.

The butt cap unscrews easily (again, finger-tight with an O-ring) and the handle slides forward off the midshaft and end shaft. The baton uses a conical five-petal lever lock mechanism. The release button presses a long metal pin towards the end of the baton, like most quick-collapse designs. This presses it into the center of the cone, which spreads it apart. This in turn pulls the outer edges of the petals inwards. The petals are some kind of steel. It's all very simple, and unlikely to need much maintenance.

There is a little wobble when extended, but not much. Maybe 1mm in length and 1cm laterally. This is normal for quick-collapse designs, and the locks are very secure.

    Solid baton

Overall a good home protection baton. Not quite as good for law enforcement. It seems to be too thin to fit into most baton holsters

Feel more secure on my walks

Very solid and smooth feeling action. I would not want to be on the receiving end of it. Bonus is it is compace and clips in nicely with gym shorts.
