Spy Gadgets For Today’s Bond Girl

In today’s blog post we’re going to take a look at some items that an aspiring private investigator would need to do her job-spy gadgets for today’s Bond girl.

One of the more famous characters created by Sue Grafton in her alphabet mystery series is Kinsey Millhone the peanut-butter and pickle sandwich eating ex-cop turned private investigator.

Here are just some of the items a professional private investigator like Kinsey with limited resources would use.

First you need a hidden camera preferably with audio recording capabilities to do those undercover jobs. So much of a private investigator’s job needs to be done covertly which is where this pen hidden spy camera with microphone comes in handy. It is a very attractive black and gold ball point pen that records video in 720 pixel high definition. It records in motion activation mode eliminating blank footage. It can support up to 128 GB microSD card and uses an internal rechargeable lithium polymer 3.7 V battery. Audio and visual files can be downloaded using the included USB cable. It even comes with an ink refill.

Another thing that would come in handy for a private investigator is this sonic sound amplifier that can provide an increase of 50 dB in ambient sound amplification with a maximum output of 107 dB. There is a sound output jack to record what you hear. It has an attachment that can be used to mount it directly to binoculars or you can attach it to a pocket or belt for hands-free use. It is compatible with recording devices. For those situations where you need to hear what’s going on, this can be a great help.

Then there are so many instances where a private investigator needs to track someone. That is where this Mini GPS logger can be a lifesaver. It has a magnetic mount that enables it to be firmly attached to metal surfaces-such as a car-to keep track of where your subject is going. It weighs only 1.3 ounces and is one and a half inches square. It is water resistant for outdoor use, has a rechargeable battery and 64 MB of memory. It can log location, speed and time and is compatible with Google maps and Google Earth. When you need to keep track of where someone is going, this is your answer.

And then since so many of today’s private investigator cases involve working with computers this data recovery software enables you to monitor and recover deleted data from multiple devices including iPhones, iPads, android phones and USB flash drives. It can recover photos, videos, audio and archived files.

And we know that bounty hunters are not private investigators but they are the next closest thing. There is no more famous bounty hunter in the world than Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum the “spunky combination of Nancy Drew and Dirty Harry, and described by the author as ‘incredibly average and yet heroic if necessary.’ ”

Stephanie and her sidekick never go anywhere without their self-defense pepper sprays and stun guns. They are always hot on the trail of people who jump bail for a variety of hilarious reasons. Stephanie always carries a stun gun like this twenty million volt stunner that uses triple stun technology with three electrical arcs on top of the unit-enough to scare the living daylights out of any bad guy. It is only 4 inches tall, weighs just 6 ounces and of course comes in pink.

Then the staple of any good private detective or bounty hunter is a keychain pepper spray. This one has been independently tested to be 87% hotter than competing brands and has a UV marking dye to identify assailants/supects after the attack. It can fire 5-7 feet and has enough oleoresin capsicum for 6-8 one-second bursts.

Who do you know that uses any of these items? Please share your experience. We want to hear your thoughts.
