Carrying a Self Defense-Product Plus Other Ways to Protect Yourself Against an Assault
The statistics have been around forever. They are nothing new. Women get assaulted nine times more often than men. We recently saw statistics for a college campus that said every woman on campus was improperly touched at some point in her college life, and that one out of four women reported sexual assaults on campus-sadly most cases go unreported. The highest percentage of women getting assaulted is as a result of domestic violence was close to 60% of all women report some kind of assault.
Every situation is different. But here we will provide some general guidelines on the best ways to protect yourself against an assault. Prevention is the key to protection.
Dangerous places should be avoided. Of course it makes good common sense that the more isolated a place is, the more dangerous it can be. Some examples are underground parking garages, stairwells or anywhere people are not congregated. A big mistake that a lot of women make is that they feel comfortable in the grocery store or a mall parking lot, but given the right scenario it can be a dangerous place, especially at night in a poorly lit parking lot.
Be aware of your surroundings. Women get lulled into a sense of complacency and don’t pay attention to what’s going on around them. A good example is a woman coming out of the store after shopping. She may be talking on her cell phone; she may be talking to her friend; she may be watching her child: but she is not watching the guy that’s watching her-a potentially dangerous situation. Generally speaking, a woman who is preoccupied with other tasks makes an excellent target for sexual predators.
Women especially have a sense of compassion and are willing to help others. Predators prey on that trait. If you want to help other people, do it when you’re with someone and not by yourself.
Home invasion is a particularly bad crime and it starts at your front door. Never let a stranger into your house without verifying who he is and what he’s doing there. If a stranger tells you that he ran out of gas and needs to make a phone call, make the phone call for him but don’t let him into your house.
Every woman alive should be carrying a self-defense product such as a pepper spray or a stun gun. In the event of an assault, a self-defense product can give you valuable time to get away and seek help. They can be your first line of defense in saving your life.
Those are some ways you can protect yourself against an assault.
